Talk of the 'Loot
Convo about a Great New Contest

In 500 Words or Less is a film that follows the stories of different students applying to college. The winner of our In 500 Words or Less contest will get to be a part of this exciting film's promotional materials. If you're in high school or a freshman in college you should enter this contest because everyone has a unique and interesting story to tell about figuring out what they want to do with their lives. (For example, I have a great story about how learning to juggle is way harder than it looks.)

What are your goals for college, career, or life? For our wiser 'Looters, do you have any advice to give the young 'uns?

I wish I was in high school again. Next year is my 10 year high school reunion and it still feels like it was yesterday.

I'm just glad I never had to take the new SATs. Essays on standardized tests? No thank you. :)

Deric - you should totally enter!

Casey - will barely be on - busy with acting
I know I'm only a frosh in highschool, but sadly enough I've been getting ready for college since I was in like 6th grade. I live in a preeetttty competetive town, so I always have to push myself to stand out and get the best grades. I try to do everything I love and that will also look good on my applications. At UPenn [whose journalism/communications school I desperately want to go to] I have the legacy thing down, but I want to get in for me, not for my parents. Gahh this whole thing is crazy, and I still haven't had to do interviews or applications yet!

ughh I'm going to be a senior next year & getting ready for college is one of the most stressful things in the world. I've become so obsessed lol with keeping all A's. & then I have to take the SATS in June, which I don't really think measure anyone's intelligence.

Liz- Don't most colleges not look at the essays anyway? haha I hope so.

[Enter deric!! :D]

I don't really know much about the new SATs. So I wouldn't take my answer as the truth, but I would assume that colleges don't really have access to the essays on the SATs. They just see your overall score and those essays are just factored in to that score. Anyone know if this is right or not?

Ashlie, when I mentioned the essays earlier I was just saying that standardized tests are stressful enough and I'm glad that when I took the SATs they didn't have an essay portion.

I remember SAT and ACT scores are just part of what colleges look at. they look at your grades and if you took AP or honor classes. And they love you more if you are in sports and do extra stuff like a bunch of clubs and volunteer work. It all adds up.

yea but apparently they don't want someone that has a million activities on their resume because it shows kinda a deviation from actual schoolwork. they want one good leadership role [thank god I'm president of my schools archeaology club haha]

hey guys- sorry i've been out of the convo for a bit. i hope all of you enter the contest. so many high schoolers apply to college each year and I can't wait to see all of your individual perspectives.

Emily wants to understand these feelings
as a high school freshman you might think that i have time, but my brother is a senior this year and i know all about the college application process because of him.

i know that when one of your best friend's gets into both you and his/her dream school, you'll be crushed.
i know that someone you hang out with for the first half of the year can be your enemy the second half because of something she did.
i know that my parents will never shut up about things i really dont care about, like my mom wanting me to start looking at SAT books now
i learned from track that even when you think you wont come out alive, that you will and you will be stronger for it.
but most of all, i know what it feels like to be left behind, when your brothers planning to leave when this year you have become the closest ever.
br>
wow that came out much differently than i hoped but whatever, its there and i think it gets my point across, whatever that point may be...

Tyna's Monday tens meant Tuesday sorry
-_- Too bad I can't enter, just graduated from '07 and attending college now -_-" Nervous as heck, of course, and believe me, it's much harder. Instructors/teachers here don't care about you, they won't push you to do your work, you do it yourself, you do homework, you study for tests, if you fail, your problem, they won't push you, lol. but they will offer you office tutoring, IF you go, that is. If you don't, that's your problem, too.
Believe me, lol, I found it hard to keep up with college 'cuz no one was there to "babysit" me anymore, like how the teachers in high school do.

Christyna - you can enter! The contest is open to people 14-19. If you're already in college you can tell the story of what you went through to get there.

emily: you really don't need to start yet. wait till you get into your sophmore year. just start looking at colleges.

Liz- ugh I'm going away for the summer so I dont think I can keep up with it right now, especially with APs & final projects.
